I have managed to get out and take some pictures over the past few weeks. All of the pictures are from the Huntsville area. The last few weeks the sky was overcast, an overcast sky makes for nice diffused light and is perfect for shooting buildings, people and pets. Diffused light is good for taking pictures of buildings because it will not cast harsh shadows or cause white areas of the buildings to be overexposed. Overcast days give a nice even light, which really helped when I was at the stables taking pictures of the ponies (I’ll leave that for another post though) The only bad thing about an overcast sky for outdoor photography is when the sky is part of the picture. Overcast skies in a photograph can seem rather dull. In some photos I chose to crop the sky out completely, in others I actually used photoshop to put in a nice blue sky (I will show you a great example of that when I post the pictures from the stables) and in most pictures I just left the sky as is. I hope you enjoy these pictures, I enjoyed taking them
My first stop for taking pictures was a spot I had been eyeing for a while. This is on Highlands drive (I think that’s the name of the road) I walked up the Highlands golf cart path and onto the bridge that goes over the road. I originally planned on taking a picture of the road with the fall leaves lining the sides but when I noticed this house nestled in the woods I had a change of heart.
I liked the shot of the house in the woods but I wanted to capture more of the changing leaves and the woods in the background. I do not have a really good wide angle lens for my camera so I decided to take three pictures and then stitch them together. The beauty of this is that anyone can do this, even if you have a point and shoot camera (in fact I first learned to do this with a point and shoot camera) below are the three pictures that I took.
I took the three pictures from above and stitched them all together. I did not like the sliver of sky in the pictures above so I cropped it out, I also cropped a bit off of the right side to exclude the road (makes the house look like it is in the middle of the woods) and I took a bit off the left side to properly centre the house in the image.

This is just a quick snap I took at the church up on the hill by the bridge in Huntsville. In order to get a lot of the fallen leaves in the picture I got low to the ground and used a wide angle lens so I could get the top of the church as well.
The picture below is from Deerhurst Resort, it is a shot of the sports villas. In the original picture I had more of the sky but I cropped it out as it is not important for the composition of the picture.
I thought this was a cool picture of the leaves chaning colour. I like the orange, yellow and green all on the same leaf!
This is the most beautiful girl in the world (my girlfriend
) This picture was taken at the lookout point by Deerhurst. If you would like to get to it there are walking trails that lead up to it from Deerhurst drive. There are maps available in the lobby at Deerhurst. If you are looking to get some nice nature photos this is a great spot, it also over looks the resort and the lake. I am not to happy with the picture I got (another panoramic) but I put it in the post so you can get an idea of what the view is like!

I am sure a lot you locals have seen this while driving down to the Wal-mart! Every time I came down this hill I thought to myself, wow what a beautiful view. This picture does not compare to what the side of the hill looked like but I managed to capture a piece of the beauty.
Well that comes to the end of my post. I will leave you with something we all have to look forward to raking leaves!!
Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! If you have some pictures of Huntsville Ontario in the fall feel free to send them to me and I will post the best ones on one of my posts!

great pictures. Always a sucker for good fall shots!
Aren’t we blessed to live amongst the trees? Excellent work, as always, like the lesson in panoramics. I love my camera, and hubby for getting it for me for my birthday!
